General

Where are Karakoram bindings made?

Bindings are assembled at our shop in North Bend, WA. Our machined, injection-molded, bent sheet metal, and turned parts are made in the greater Seattle area — about 95% of our components are manufactured in the USA. We source straps and a small number of components internationally.

Does the Karakoram interface use the same mounting hole pattern as Voile?

Yes. The Karakoram interface mounts to the standard insert pattern used on production splitboards, the same pattern that accepts the Voile interface.

Can I use Karakoram bindings with Voile pucks?

No. Karakoram bindings use their own interface with five attachment points for a stiffer connection to the board, and are not compatible with Voile pucks.

Can I swap out my Voile China Clips for Karakoram Splitboard Clips?

Yes, on most splitboards. You'll need a 3/32" hex wrench and a 3/8" wrench. One of the mounting holes on the Karakoram splitboard clips is threaded, so read the instructions before installing — no drilling is required.

Can I use Karakoram bindings with Voile Chinese hooks?

No. Karakoram bindings must be used with Karakoram Splitboard Clips and are not compatible with Voile Chinese hooks.

Prime System & Bindings

What's the difference between Alpine Prime bindings and Quiver bindings (Layback, Free Ranger, Recon, Wayfinder)?

Both use the same Prime System and Active Joining technology, but they're built for different setups. Alpine Prime bindings ship ready to split — they include the full splitboard interface (ride mode interfaces, tour mode interfaces, heel risers, and hardware). Quiver bindings ship for solid boards, mounting to Quiver-Connectors so you can rapidly swap between multiple boards. Add the Connect Split Kit to any Quiver binding and it becomes a fully capable backcountry splitboard binding, using the same interface technology as the Prime System.

What's included in the box with a new pair of bindings?

Alpine Prime (splitboard) bindings: all splitboard interface components and hardware, except board clips. That includes ride mode interfaces, tour mode interfaces, heel risers with heel lock-downs, all mounting hardware, and detailed instructions.

Quiver bindings: one set (2 total) of solid-board Quiver-Connectors, so you can ride on a solid board right out of the box. To split them, add the Connect Split Kit, which includes the same ride mode and tour mode interface components as the Alpine Prime interface, plus a set of single, medium-height heel risers.

Packaging can vary slightly outside the USA depending on region — check with your local Karakoram dealer or email us for details.

Can Quiver bindings be used on both solid boards and splitboards? How do they ride?

Yes to both. Quiver bindings mount directly to Quiver-Connectors for rapid deployment across multiple solid boards — drop your foam Quiver Protectors on and stack your boards like pages in a book. Add the Connect Split Kit and the same bindings become full-performance splitboard bindings for backcountry touring, using Karakoram's Prime System interface technology.

Can I use my Alpine Prime splitboard bindings on my resort/solid board?

Yes. All Karakoram Prime bindings are compatible with Quiver-Connectors, so you can mount your splitboard bindings to any modern solid board. The Active Joining interface drives power straight to your edges for a locked-in, high-performance feel.

I have Prime bindings from a previous season. Any tips for faster changeovers?

Clear all snow from the inner seam of the splitboard first — the board's performance comes from being clamped together by the board clips and bindings, and snow in the seam interferes with that. Second, check for snow directly under the binding's contact points where they meet the topsheet. Finally, take the extra few seconds to seat your bindings correctly; they should "fall" onto the interface with almost no resistance.

Set-up, use, and maintenance for the clips that hold your board halves together.

Set-Up

Should I be concerned about the wire bale on the board clip sticking out past the inside edge?

We haven't seen issues with the bale catching on anything in testing. If you're concerned, the bale flips back onto the lever and holds in place.

One of the holes on the board clips is too small for the screw — what do I do?

That hole is threaded by design, so no drilling is needed — make sure you're following the install instructions. See our Manuals page for the current install guide.

The board clips that came with my factory board are too loose. What can I do?

2013-14 and newer board clips have an adjustable tensioning feature: loosen the screws on the hook side, slide the hook side away from the bail side, and re-tighten in the new position to increase clamping force. On clips older than '13-14, you can roll the hook over slightly by tapping it with a hammer or gently bending it in a vise.

How tight should the board clips be?

They should snap into place but not be difficult to lift. If they feel too tight, loosen the nuts on the hook side and reposition the hook. On pre-'13-14 clips, you can open up the mounting holes on the hook side using a 5.4mm (#3 ANSI) up to a 5.5mm (7/32 ANSI) drill bit.

What can I do if the 3/32" hex drive strips?

Cut a slot into the head of the screw with a Dremel and cut-off wheel, then use a flat-head screwdriver to remove it.

Use

My board clips sometimes work differently in the snow than when dry — what's wrong?

Make sure the inside edge is clear of ice build-up before engaging the clips.

The wire bale on my board clips won't flip all the way back — what can I do?

Some production splitboards use overly long screws to attach their China clips, which can interfere with the bale flipping back onto the lever. Trim the screw down to remove the interference.

Maintenance

What maintenance do board clips need?

Little beyond checking hardware tightness. 2013-14+ clips have an adjustable tensioning feature that maintains a proper cam-over across a range of hole-spacing variations. To adjust, loosen the nuts and screws on the bail side and slide it away from the seam to tighten, or toward the seam to loosen.

UltraClips

The UltraClip family is the result of 15 years of refining Active Joining — the connection at the seam of your splitboard.

What are UltraClips?

UltraClips are Karakoram's patented seam-clamping system for splitboards — the evolution of the board clip. The connection at the seam is critical to your board feeling and performing like a true snowboard when it's put back together, and the UltraClip family is built to make that connection as tight and repeatable as possible.

What's the difference between UltraClip-3CV, UltraClip 2.0, and UltraClip 1.0?

UltraClip-3CV is the current flagship: 48g (36g lighter than UltraClip 1.0), with 3D clamping that locks the seam perpendicular, parallel, and vertically for the tightest connection Karakoram has built. It has set-screw micro-adjustment to dial in tension, the smallest footprint of the family thanks to full CNC-machined aluminum construction with hidden hardware, and an anti-icing design. It works with coarse M5-.8 inserts only.

UltraClip 2.0 weighs 68g (10g lighter than UltraClip 1.0), clamps 2D — perpendicular and parallel to the seam — and also has set-screw micro-adjustment. It comes standard with coarse thread M5-.8 top-mount hardware.

UltraClip 1.0 is the original UltraClip at 78g, and comes standard with thru-mount hardware.

How do I adjust the tension on my UltraClips?

UltraClip-3CV and UltraClip 2.0 both use a set-screw micro-adjustment — simply turn the screw to increase or decrease clamping tension at the seam.

What hardware do UltraClips use, and will they fit my board?

UltraClip-3CV works with coarse M5-.8 inserts only. UltraClip 2.0 is available in coarse thread, fine thread, and thru-mount versions to match your board's insert type. UltraClip 1.0 comes standard with thru-mount hardware. If you're not sure which hardware option your board needs, contact us before ordering.

Bindings & Interfaces

Set-up, use, and maintenance for your splitboard interface and Prime System bindings.

Set-Up

I have my new bindings — how do I set them up?

Your instruction manual covers every binding and interface component and how to install them. You'll also find setup videos on our Manuals & Instructional Videos page.

My interface is installed, but my bindings aren't fitting into Ride Mode. What should I do?

Splitboard manufacturers vary slightly in hole spacing, so your Ride Mode may need adjustment. Industry-standard spacing is 3.375" ± 0.0625". If your board's spacing falls outside that range, you'll need custom modifications to your Ride Modes.

My hole spacing is narrower than 3.375" and my Ride Mode won't line up with my board's inserts.

On boards with insert spacing under 3.3125", grind a small amount of metal off the tips of the metal tabs on the Ride Modes, then move the Adjustment Block on your Toe Attachment forward to properly engage the bindings. If the block doesn't move far enough forward, you'll need a custom block. Contact us if you run into this.

My board's insert spacing is greater than 3.4375" and my seam pin isn't engaging with my Toe Attachment tab.

Standard ride mode insert spacing for Karakoram bindings is 3.375" ± 0.0625". If your spacing is larger than that, you'll need custom Ride Modes made — contact us and we'll help (shop machining rates apply).

Use

Any tips before my first tour on new bindings and interface?

Clear the majority of snow buildup off your bindings and interface components before transitioning. Full use videos are on our Manuals page.

How do I know when my binding is fully locked into Ride Mode?

All three pins should be visible through the ride mode hold-down loops, the heel stay lever should pop over-center with a distinct snap, and the safety lock block should be engaged over the lever.

My binding is difficult to attach to Ride Mode. What can I do?

Double-check that snow has been cleared from under the binding and the surface of the Ride Mode. If the board seam isn't sitting flush, flip the board over with the binding hooked to Ride Mode, press on the seam with your palm to seat it flush, then close the heel stay lever.

Any tricks for clearing snow and ice build-up?

The top of the Highback doubles as an ice scraper for the space between your Heel Attachment loops. The heel stay lever can clean snow from the Ride Mode Toe Attachment. In Tour Mode, push the axle straight down into the Tour Mode Cradle and rock it back and forth — as you rotate the binding down, the Tour Mode Clip fractures away any remaining ice.

Can I switch from Tour to Ride Mode without taking my bindings off?

Yes, on stable, flat ground so the board seam doesn't shear. If it's difficult, check for snow buildup on the bottom of your bindings, or make sure the toe-side ski isn't pushed down below the heel-side ski. We recommend practicing indoors before trying it on snow.

Can I step into Tour Mode without taking off my bindings?

Yes — align the toe pin in the Tour Mode cradle, make sure the Tour Axle is straight and fully seated, then rotate your heel down and engage the final cam-over to fully lock into Tour Mode.

Does snow or ice interfere with Tour Mode?

Tour Mode is engineered to be self-cleaning. The Tour Mode Axle pushes snow and ice out of the cradle, and as you rotate the binding down onto the Tour Mode Lever, the clamp fractures away any remaining buildup.

Can I lock down my heel in Tour Mode?

Yes — see the Heel Lock Down / Dual Risers section below.

Maintenance

What maintenance do my bindings and interface need?

Similar to a bicycle, our bindings mostly need a regular inspection of screws. Keep an eye on the side screws, Highback/strap T-nuts, and Tour Mode Axle — the cyclic loading of touring can work hardware loose over time. If you find loose screws or an axle, apply a few drops of threadlocker and re-torque. Your interface needs the same bare-minimum attention: check hardware regularly and re-apply threadlocker as needed.

Heel Lock Down / Dual Risers

My heel lock down isn't engaging. What do I do?

The heel lock down is designed for the nominal splitboard ride mode insert spacing of 3 3/8". If your board's spacing is significantly larger, the lock down will feel loose; significantly smaller, and it will feel tight. Most splitboards use 3 3/8" spacing, so this shouldn't affect most riders. If you run into this, contact us and we'll help find a solution.

How do I keep my Heel Lockdown / Dual Riser working smoothly long-term?

Always make sure your climbing wire is in the rear riser position before flipping it up into climbing mode. Flipping the wire up while it's in the forward Heel Lockdown position can bend it and damage both the wire and the base.

My climbing wires don't stay up in Climbing Mode. What's wrong?

If the wire was flipped up while in the Heel Lockdown position, it can bend outward slightly and fit looser. Disassemble the Lockdown/Riser base and re-bend the wire to fit tighter.

Crampons

What do Karakoram Splitboard Crampons offer that a standard crampon doesn't?

Karakoram Splitboard Crampons combine the grip of a fixed ski crampon with the ease of touring of a floating crampon. The front teeth are centered on the touring pivot, so you get full front-tooth engagement regardless of riser height — and they can be installed on the fly, mid-tour.

Which crampons fit my bindings?

Prime Crampons fit all Prime System bindings (any binding with a lever on the heelcup) — this covers the current Alpine Prime and Quiver lineups. Split30 Crampons fit the discontinued Split30 and GNU Collab bindings only.

Does Karakoram make Verts?

No — we make adapters so you can use your Karakoram splitboard bindings on Verts.

How do I attach my Karakoram bindings to Verts?

Our Vert Adapters screw directly onto Verts.

Quiver-Connectors

What are Quiver-Connectors and why would I want them?

Quiver-Connectors let you mount your Karakoram bindings to any solid board and rapidly swap between boards in your quiver — pow, groomers, park, steeps, whatever the day calls for. Active Joining keeps your feet spring-loaded to the board for direct power transfer and instant response, with no turning screws or re-checking your stance. Current options are the Quiver-Connector 3.0, Carbon QC 3.0, and Channel QC 3.0 (for channel/3D mounting systems).

Will Quiver-Connectors work with my older Prime bindings?

Yes. Quiver-Connectors are compatible with Karakoram's Prime System bindings across model years, giving you an extraordinarily responsive connection to any solid board in your quiver.

Warranty & Returns

What's Karakoram's return policy?

We accept returns on unused products purchased directly from us within 30 days of the purchase date. A 5% restocking fee applies to returned items.

What does the standard warranty cover?

Karakoram warrants its products to be free of defects in material or workmanship for two (2) years from the date of purchase for the original registered owner, with a valid sales receipt. Damage from impact, abuse, misuse, neglect, non-factory modifications, and normal wear and tear isn't covered. Covered items are repaired, or replaced if irreparable. All linkages (the moving parts of the closure mechanism) are covered for life with product registration.

Is there a separate warranty for risers?

Yes — DualSpeed Risers carry a 3-year warranty against defects in material or workmanship with product registration.

What about the Continuum solid binding?

Continuum bindings carry a Lifetime Warranty for the original registered owner, validated with an original sales receipt. To be eligible, register your Continuum binding within 90 days of purchase. The same exclusions apply: impact, abuse, misuse, neglect, non-factory modifications, and normal wear and tear aren't covered.

What's Lifetime Crash Replacement?

If you destroy your binding system — car, snowmobile, or otherwise — we'll replace the broken parts for a nominal fee, with return of the broken parts.

What's Forever Ride Support?

If anything wears down over time, even outside your standard warranty window, we'll support your product with replacement parts and service for a nominal fee to the original owner. We want you riding your Karakoram gear for as long as you want to ride it.
